School Earthquake Safety in APEC Economies
From APEC HRDWG Wiki
APEC recognizes the vital importance of protecting the people and businesses of the region from disasters, and established the APEC Emergency Preparedness Working Group to play a constructive role in preparing the Asia-Pacific region for preventing and responding to the risk of disasters and helps the APEC members build business and community resilience.
The EPWG held a workshop in Chinese Taipei from 17-19 October 2011 to address earthquakes and their impact on the safety of school buildings and students. The workshop included presentations from leading experts in earthquake safety, case studies from recent disasters in the Asia-Pacific region, and visits to the 921 Earthquake Museum in Tai-chung, which was struck by the 1999 Chi-Chi earthquake, and area schools that were rebuilt after that disaster.
