The Strategic Approach to Sustainable Capacity Building: Meeting the Challenges of Regional Economic Integration in APEC is a project from the Capacity Building Network.   The project aims to develop a strategic framework for sustainable capacity building programs in APEC. The goal is to raise institutional and personnel capacity of government, business, and civil society in order to face new challenges of APEC economic integration through:

  1. Stocktaking of existing resources from within and from outside of the APEC community on trade and investment-related subjects
  2. Redesigning integrated and multi-faceted programs based on the current and future capacity building needs
  3. Identifying issues and making policy recommendations
  4. Establishing a network of institutions and individuals who will update/redesign new curricula on a sustained basis in the future

Thematic Seminar in Hiroshima

The project originally planned to organize a workshop on the margin of the 2010 HRDWG meeting to review the results of various stock-taking activities. At the same time, the workshop was to focus on the general future direction and needs of HRD and APEC’s capacity-building activities. To trigger the discussion, a Thematic Seminar at the time of HRDWG was organized. HRDWG delegates were encouraged to contribute during discussions at the network meetings.
