Teacher Quality may be defined in a variety of ways and economies, school systems, and other educational institutions determine teacher quality using various definitions. It may take the form of a teacher's credentials and degrees, or may be approached from the perspective of student achievement. However it is defined, many research studies have demonstrated the direct link between teacher quality and student performance. Quality teachers are an essential component of education systems, and the Education Network has made studying and promoting teacher quality a priority for APEC.

Teacher Quality Projects APEC Thematic Seminar on Teacher Quality was held in March 2011 as part of the 33rd HRDWG Meeting in Washington DC.  The goal of the seminar was to share information about promising practices in teaching, development, evaluation and compensation.
