OBJECTIVES FORMULATION

Our main aim is to work together, because we can exchange professional experiences and practice speaking. In this way we can give our students a better quality of education by planning classes together. Team work is very important, in this way we can enjoy our work more and share our problems.

LAST ACTIVITIES

Tourism Office:
At the moment we are meeting tourists with our students at the square of San José de Maipo. This is our main aim Network Project, to improve the difficulties that our students have with regard to learning English.

NAME OF THE PROJECT:

“ORAL ENGLISH COMMUNICATION WITH TOURISTS IN SAN JOSÉ DE MAIPO”

PROJECT OF: SAN JOSÉ DE MAIPO ENGLISH NETWORK.

I.- DETERMINATION OF THE PROBLEM:

  • Students do not have a basic knowledge of the English Language.
  • Students do not have a good fluency the target language.
  • Students do not know the tourist potential of their place.
  • Students can not communicate fluently in English with tourists and other people.
  • Students have no interaction with students from different places in Metropolitan Santiago Region
  • Students do not have a good level of confidence in themselves to face the tourists and other people in their area.
  • Students do not look at the English language as a tool for their working life in the future.


II. PROBLEM FOUNDATIONS:

In San José de Maipo, there are several attractions that cause tourists to visit our area, but students do not know or have enough information about them. It is necessary to teach basic English to achieve good communication with the tourists. This can also create personal development resulting in the student being proud of their location as a tourist attractions.

In San José de Maipo, there is a lot information that informs people about all interesting places, but they are all written in Spanish.


III. OBJECTIVES FORMULATION:

The students of primary and secondary schools of SAN JOSE DE MAIPO will have a suitable level of English allowing them to exchange information with English speaking tourists who come to the area.


IV. GOALS OR WISHES RESULTS:

  • Ninety per cent of the students will increase their English vocabulary.
  • The students will be able to engage in a basic conversation.
  • The students will be able to share their knowledge in the tourist industry.
  • To encourage a sense of pride among students using goals that increases their English communication.

VI. STRATEGY STATING:

  • Design a strategy to teach a basic vocabulary in English, related to touristic information.
  • Implement a new bilingual direction signs in important places; Spanish – English.
  • The study of local typical and historical places to share the information with possible tourists.
  • In the actual tourist office, implement a facility where the students could give good information about the local touristic resources of their community as their professional practice.

  • Ability and skills.
  • Collaborative work.
  • Leadership.
  • Co-partnership.
  • Importance of team work.
  • Responsibility and honesty among them.
  • Polite behaviour in front of tourists.


RESULTS:

Today is a very good for our tourism students as it gives them the opportunity to interact and share information with English speaking tourists who have come to visit San José de Maipo. This will help the students to gain Jobs in the restaurants, Hotels, etc, in San José de Maipo, and allow them to lead successful working lives.

We hope to continue this Project, to open future students to the same opportunities.
