DESCRIPTION OF BASIC EDUCATION AND LINES OF ACTION OF COMMUNITY WORKSHOPS IN 2009

The Workshop program Communal Lautaro - Perquenco, the ninth region aims to promote and install in the participating communities a system of continuing education among peers in the service of improving the quality of learning of students from city schools and particularly subsidized actively involved. The proposal is based Communal Workshop and is the peer learning methodology, which encourages critical reflection and constructive professional English subsector sharing a common practice-teaching-and therefore have similar needs and goals. This communal workshop has the support of the Municipal Education Director Dr. Juan Sanhueza Vidal providing materials we need for the proper functioning of our participating teachers Taller.

At this point there are fourteen, who taught English Sub-sector 5th a 8th year of primary education. Eight of them are urban schools, and include six teachers participating in the rural sector and the Guide Professor has the mention in the subsector and further training with current teaching in the second cycle of Basic Education. He actively participated in the annual training three days a week each, for further training and educational content subsector own learning English, as well as strategies for conducting workshops using the methodology of peer learning. The workings of the Communal Workshop is that in the communities involved, they form groups of teachers who meet weekly to study and analyze content from a specific area of learning from and teaching the disciplinary gaze of pedagogical practice. At the end of scheduled meetings at this Workshop, which are a scheduled event on Thursday from 17.30 to 20.00 hours will yield a test that directly sends the Teacher Training Center. When approved this assessment will provide the certification to the Teachers Guide and each of participating teachers. The teachers guide from around the country were in Santiago for a week to participate in the conference planned by the the English Opens Doors Program (PIAP). In those weeks the focus was on assessing the experiences and analysis of the strategies of community workshops as opportunities for teachers meet to hone their leadership skills and support the other teachers.

Teacher Workshop of the Commune as previously mentioned, discussed at their weekly meetings together the methodologies of the four skills that PIAP emphasizes at the English Program 5th to 8th year. As a group of teachers are discussed, activities are created according to individual differences of students of different institutions involved. They are then implemented in the classroom and at the next meeting the results are collected. So far the results are excellent as demonstrated by the massive introduction of learners in the week of English carried out on 30 October in the commune with the support of the local authorities.

The overall objective of the activity: To publicize the importance of English language for the community, publicizing progress and achievements of teachers and students, with the specific objectives: to promote the use and language learning English Language at the municipal schools and the schools subsidized by the government, encourage the school community, family, authorities, and the close circle of students to support them and motivate them in learning English. Networking with institutions related to the topic, which can support the Program's effort
